Join the Lynn Wage Theft Ordinance Hearing on Tuesday at 7:15pm!

As an ECCO board member, I am blessed also to be involved with one of ECCO’s key allies, the North Shore Labor Council (NSLC).  I am writing to invite you to an important Lynn City Council Hearing on Tuesday Night on the Lynn Wage Theft Ordinance.

Wage theft is the illegal practice of not paying workers for all of their work, including violating minimum wage laws, not paying overtime, denying earned sick time, and more.  Unfortunately, it is an enormous problem both in MA and across the country. According to recent estimates, dishonest MA employers steal more than $700 million from workers each year.  When wage theft occurs, unscrupulous employers use myriad tactics not only to steal from workers but also to rob municipal and state coffers of needed revenue to fund services we all need. It undercuts honest businesses when the playing field is not level.

Local residents pushing for the Wage Theft Ordinance at Lynn City Hall

To address this problem, NSLC has worked together with the Lynn Worker’s Center to craft a Wage Theft Ordinance for the city of Lynn.  The Lynn City Council is expected to discuss and vote on the ordinance next week, and we need YOUR support to make sure it gets passed.

Hearing and Vote on Lynn Wage Theft Ordinance

When: Tuesday, March 13 at 7:15pm

Where: Lynn City Hall, 3 City Hall Square, Lynn, MA

What: Join ECCO and NSLC to stand with Lynn workers and citizens for a public hearing and expected vote by the Lynn City Council.  With this win, NSLC and ECCO can join with others to introduce this type of ordinance in other cities and towns and help send out the message that WAGE THEFT HAS NO PLACE in our region!
