Call Your Legislators TODAY to Save the Life of ICE Detainee Cecilia Larias!
I am writing to urge you to call Senators Warren and Markey and Congressman Seth Moulton to intervene in the case of my congregant Cecilia Larias, who now who is now being held in the South Bay Detention Center and whose life is in serious danger.
Cecilia is a resident of Lynn, a mother of two young children, and an active member of my congregation, Iglesia de Dios de la Profecía. She escaped her native home of Guatemala in 2014 and has sought asylum in our country because she fears for her life. As the result of extensive torture, she suffers from a medical condition that requires a blood treatment every two weeks. Because Cecilia does not get these treatments while in detention, her health is now gravely threatened.
Though Cecilia has committed no crimes, has followed the rules and applied for political asylum which is still pending, Cecilia was arrested in October during her regularly scheduled visit to ICE. Her life is is in immediate jeopardy because she is not getting proper medical attention, but returning to Guatemala would mean abandoning her children and risking torture and/or death.
Despite previous interventions from ECCO clergy to our Congressional delegation, Cecilia remains incarcerated.
Now, it is time that WE ALL put pressure on them to intervene on Cecilia Larias’ behalf and demand that ICE arrange for her release so she can receive medical attention.
Please take five minutes to call your legislators and help save Cecilia Larias’ life! See below for call-in information and a call script.
Trusting in your support,
Pastor Eduardo Caceres, Iglesia de Dios de la Profecía, Lynn
Senator Elizabeth Warren: (617) 565-3170
Senator Ed Markey: 617-565-8519
Congressman Seth Moulton: (978) 531-1669
Hi. This is ___ [NAME] from [TOWN]. I am calling because I am deeply concerned about Cecilia Larias, who is being detained by ICE and whose life is in serious danger.
Explain the Case
I am calling to ask for ____ [NAME OF LEGISLATOR] to intervene in the case of Cecilia Larias, whom I know through the Essex County Community Organization.
Cecila is a resident of Lynn and a mother of two young children. She escaped her native Guatemala in 2014 and has sought asylum in our country because she fears for her life. As the result of extensive torture, she suffers from a medical condition that requires a blood treatment every two weeks. Without these visits, which she does not get while in detention, her life is seriously at risk.
Though Cecilia has committed no crimes, has followed the rules, and has a pending asylum claim, Cecilia was arrested in October during her regularly scheduled visit to ICE. Her life is is in immediate jeopardy because she is not getting proper medical attention, but returning to Guatemala would mean abandoning her children and risking torture and/or death.
I know that clergy from ECCO have met with people in your office, and we have been disappointed that little has been done and Cecilia’s condition worsens by the day.
The clergy has asked that Senator____________ or Congressman____________ make a personal call to ICE
Would ___ [NAME] be willing to call ICE or other officials to intervene on Cecilia’s behalf and help negotiate her release?
At this point, they will probably tell you that they will look into it or can’t promise anything or will get back to you.
Close: Affirm Urgency
Anything you can do is helpful. Because this case is so urgent, it is really critical that ____ takes action as soon as possible.
Can I give you my contact information so that you can let me know whether ____[NAME] decides to take a moral stand to save Cecilia’s life?
Thanks so much.
Have a great day.
