What I Learned from Pope Francis

March 1, 2017

I recently returned from the World Meeting of Popular Movements in CA. There, I heard Pope Francis speak about his admiration for PICO and its affiliates like ECCO. He said that we must be good neighbors, and come together to help anyone in need by finding opportunities to respond with compassion to those suffering most from violence, corruption, and injustices. I came to appreciate even more how important and innovative our fight for structural change, and greater social, economic, and racial justice is.

Now back home and reenergized, I wanted to invite you to tomorrow’s Beloved Community Strategy Meeting on local-level efforts with the Lynn Police (7pm at Zion Baptist), and next Thursday’s meeting on Statewide reform (7pm at Sacred Heart).  I am so proud of ECCO’s work on criminal justice reform in MA – See here for media coverage in the Boston Globe and NPR!

The ECCO board and I have also been deeply moved by how many people in Essex County have joined our meetings to strategize how to protect immigrant families and create sanctuary spaces.

In solidarity,

Tracy Best, member of the ECCO Board and Bethel AME in Lynn
