Call Today for Muslim and Immigrant Rights!

January 30, 2017

This weekend, the President’s politics of hate and fear that have swept our country took yet another toll.  But we resisted.

Thousands of protesters flooded Logan airport on Saturday, and Boston’s Copley Square on Sunday, to say that we will not stand by passively while people’s lives and livelihoods are being taken. ECCO is committed to this continued resistance.

An estimated 20,000 protesters showed up at Copley Square in Boston on Sunday.

This weekend taught us, once again, that the people have power. We don’t have time for complacency. Please join us in making calls and coming to two events this week in solidarity with our immigrant, refugee, and Muslim neighbors.

Call your legislators to Co-Sponsor the Safe Communities Act

See the bill here and a fact sheet here.

Please ask your state senator AND your state representative to cosponsor this bill TODAY. You can find your legislators here or call (617) 722-2000. Use this sample script:

Good morning/afternoon. My name is __________. I’m a constituent of Senator/Representative [name] and I live in____________.  I’m calling to ask Senator/Representative [name] to cosponsor the Safe Communities Act, sponsored by Senator Jamie Eldridge (SD.1596) and Representative Juana Matías (HD.3052). This bill would protect the civil rights of all state residents by making sure our tax dollars are not used to help the Trump administration deport immigrants and create a Muslim registry.

The leadership and action in Massachusetts has always helped shape the nation’s consciousness on civil rights. Today, we need to see that kind of courage from our state legislators on behalf of immigrants and Muslims in our communities.

Can I count on the [Senator / Representative]’s support? [Be sure to give Docket Numbers of bills: SD.1596 and HD.3052]

Massachusetts should be a place of sanctuary and solidarity.

Alexandra and Cherish
