Dear Pastors, Lay & Community Leaders
God bless you all throughout this new New Year!
As many of you probably heard already, Immigrant and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is conducting devastating raids that are affecting many families and children in communities across the state and country. This is another tactic to intimidate and separate our immigrant families. People from the area are calling BIC for help & support.
One family stayed in their car last night, afraid to go home for fear the local police would come to get them and hand them over to ICE, afraid what would happen to their children.
We thought as clergy and leaders of this city you would like to be in support of the immigrant families and are calling you to attend an emergency meeting:
Next Monday, January 11, 7 PM
BIC office at the Methodist Church at 65 West. Elm St.
This is a crucial meeting to discuss what to do about the arrest and deportation of undocumented persons in Mass and the impact it is having in the immigrant population in Brockton, also find a sanctuary place for families escaping prosecution here.
We have heard about arrests and deportations in Chelsea and East Boston today, as well as in other states across the country and this is scaring so many local immigrants, staying home afraid to go to work and school.
There’s a great need to bring the community together to conduct education on the know your rights and support.
We look forward to see many of you at this meeting next Monday evening and please involve your lay leaders, other Brockton area clergy and community leaders to discuss what should we do as short and long terms goals, including organizing a prayer vigil in our community.
There are also couple events happening in Boston in support of families over the next few days, please attend if you can to learn more about how to help here in Brockton.
